SADOT CAY DOT

Following the exhibition of Dot Caydot in Sapporo last year, Sado’s Noh theatre will now house the yoga mats with their countless phosphorescent dots, created by piercing the mats with bamboo skewers.

∈Y∋ formed the rock band Boredoms in the mid-80s, entered the American music industry after sharing the stage with Sonic Youth, and went on to influence the worldwide underground music scene.
Since then, as the leading member of Boredoms, ∈Y∋ has been delivering experimental performances such as the 2007 “77 Boa Drum” held in New York where he performed with 77 drummers, and the 2008 “88 Boa Drum” held in Los Angeles.
Apart from his work with Boredoms, ∈Y∋ also participated in Yoshihide Otomo’s experimental rock group Ground Zero, and showed vigor in his many collaborations with artists such as John Zorn and Bill Laswell, while also creating a name for himself as a DJ.
As a visual artist, ∈Y∋ created the album illustration for Beck’s 1999 Midnite Vultures, published the art books Nanoo (1996) and Ongaloo (2006), and has participated in exhibitions around the world, including at MoMA PS1. At last year’s Sapporo International Art Festival, ∈Y∋ contributed the large work entitled Dot Caydot which consisted of 280 yoga mats covered in phosphorescent dots, and the sound installation Dot Leem, in which spectators found ∈Y∋ floating inside a water tank.
